On the afternoon of November 15th, the opening ceremony of the 9th English Culture and Arts Festival was held at the Siyuan canteen. Vice President Zheng Jun attended the opening ceremony, and representatives of teachers from the School of International Education, international students, and more than 180 students from various schools of JMI attended the opening ceremony.
Zheng Jun delivered a bilingual speech in both Chinese and English for the opening ceremony. In his speech, he affirmed the positive role of the English Culture and Arts Festival in enriching campus life, showcasing English skills, and enhancing cultural exchange, as well as the achievements of the English education and teaching reform of JMI over the years, and put forward three hopes. One is to hope that students can improve their abilities by participating in activities. While enhancing professional skills, they can enhance English proficiency and communication skills. Secondly, he hopes that students can broaden their horizons and learn about the cultures of different countries and regions through participating in activities, cultivating a tolerant and open-minded mindset. Thirdly, he hopes that students can enhance their cultural confidence through the activities, and gain a deeper understanding of the excellent culture of the Chinese nation through comparisons with cultures from around the world
After the opening ceremony, the students brought a wonderful cultural performance. The Xinjiang ethnic dance full of Western regional charm, the wonderful sharing of Chinese and Western culinary cultures by foreign teachers, vivid and humorous English plays, and the song and dance performance Jasmine Flower brought by Bangladeshi international students all showcase the students' English skills and youthful charm.
This year's English Culture and Arts Festival is organized by student clubs such as the English Song Club, the English-Speaking Society, the English Corner Society, the English Association, and the Blue English Society. The theme is Join us, and a series of activities will continue to be carried out. The aim is to showcase the charm of English language through the interaction and participation of students, experience the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, stimulate their enthusiasm for learning English, feel the charm of traditional culture through cultural mutual learning, and enhance cultural confidence.
