On the afternoon of November 9, Professor Wang Yongxiang, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Nanjing Normal University and doctoral supervisor, was invited to give an academic lecture on Semiotics and Foreign Language Teaching and Research to the teachers of the School of International Education of JMI. Due to the impact of the epidemic, this academic report was delivered through Tencent online conference, and teachers listened to the report in multi-functional classroom. The seminar was organized by Zhang Yuanyuan, Deputy Dean of the School of International Education.
Professor Wang Yongxiang is the editor in chief of the English periodical Chinese Semiotic Studies and the host of the column Semiotics of the Chinese periodical Russian Literature and Art. He has made great achievements in the field of Semiotic research. Professor Wang first outlines the basic concepts and theories of semiotics, and then shares the research results of educational semiotics combined with teachers' teaching practice, and explains the application of semiotics in foreign language teaching with examples. Finally, Professor Wang clarified the relationship between research and teaching to the majority of English teachers, encouraged teachers to reflect more on teaching in the teaching process, and strive to achieve fruitful results in teaching and research. This seminar has greatly improved the academic level of teachers and opened the door for semiotic research.
